What does it do?

Smarturns is a home sensor package that alerts users when they forget to turn off stove while cooking. There will be a home alarm that beeps when the stove is turned on but no one is in the kitchen. A mobile alert will also be sent.

Why do we need it?

Unattended cooking fires is a major cause of home fires. That project started because founders Jessica and Wei were concerned about the safety and well-being of their parents who lived alone overseas.

Who is it for?

Seniors who live alone or with their caregivers, busy moms, young professionals and parents with teenagers.

What makes it stand out from the crowd?

The first sensor that detects stove activity in real-time based on the angular motion of the knobs on the stove. As soon as the knob is turned, a notification will be sent via the mobile app.

What’s next?

We plan to add more applications into our Internet of Things package that will enable seniors to age in place safely, independently and affordably.
